WTO Ruling Could Have Sweeping Effects

The World Trade Organization delivered a blow to Beijing today, finding that China has illegally taxed certain auto parts imports.

The measure is notable because it’s the first time China has been found to have run afoul of WTO rules since being admitted to the group in 2001. Moreover, observers claim this to be the tip of the iceberg, with a legal path now established for other industries to pursue action against Beijing.

The ruling will be officially released later this year, the AP reported.
